An unfortunate incident occurred last Saturday at 1700 hrs, at Mutirikwi River Triangle, that resulted in the loss of life during a fishing expedition.Felix Chitokisi ( 34) of Village 4B Monyoroka Triangle, was attacked and killed by a hippo whilst fishing with his friends Lovemore Mutepe and Calisto Chihwenga.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Patinyu Masauso explained that, Calisto spotted the hippo emerging from the water and charging towards Felix, prompting the group to flee in panic. Upon returning to the village, they realized Felix was missing, and a search party was quickly assembled.
Despite efforts to locate him, Felix’s body was only discovered the following day, floating on the water’s surface with severe injuries on his belly, hands, and back.Magistrate Patience Madondo has waived the post-mortem, as no foul play is suspected.
Ass Inspector Masauso urged the public to remember the dangers posed by wild animals and the importance of exercising caution when engaging in outdoor activities.
