A Zupco bus yesterday morning was involved in a serious accident along Mutare-Masvingo road injuring fourteen passengers in the process. Acting Manicaland Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the accident urging drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads.

“On the 21st of August 2024 at 0600hrs a Zupco Golden Dragon bus that was being driven by Blessing Machingarufu (54) was travelling along Mutare-Chimanimani road with forty passengers on board. Upon reaching the 6 K/M peg near Dangamvura Link road turn off, Machingarufu noticed a commuter omnibus that was parked on the left side of the road,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.He explained that the driver of the commuter omnibus suddenly encroached on to the road without checking if the road was clear whilst the bus was very close Machingarufu swerved the bus to the left side in a bid to avoid hitting the commuter omnibus and he lost control as the bus veered off the road and landed on its left side.
“Fourteen passengers were injured and were rushed to Victoria Chitepo hospital. We want to urgent all drivers to exercise extreme caution on our roads. The road linking to Dangamvura turn off has off late become a Blindspot,” added the acting provincial spokesperson.
